United for the Chinampas

Nanah and Chinampa Collectives of the South of Mexico City launch the campaign United for the Chinampas

The chinampas are disappearing before our eyes. Despite being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognized as a World Agricultural Heritage Site by the FAO, the lack of water, the advance of urban sprawl, and the detachment of the new generations from the land have put this unique agricultural system in the world, used by the Mexicas, on the verge of extinction.

For this reason, the zero waste brand Nanah with the collectives chinamperos from the South of Mexico City , launch the #UnidosxlasChinampas campaign to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving chinampas. The campaign will include the making of a documentary and an urgent call to action.

This call to action can be signed by everyone on the site www.change.org/unetexlaschinampas which aims to collect half a million signatures. This citizen appeal will be presented in forums and discussion tables at national and international level.

Chinampas are a legacy from our ancestors that guarantee the future of food security. We cannot lose one of the green lungs of Mexico City, and one of the largest sustainable farming options in the world.
